The first concept(seen below) was something I liked but wasn't sure if it was displaying a style that reflected the tone I was seeking. So I looked for reference and what I found was inspiration from the depths of space. I was watching Alien one night and fell in love with the movie's title sequence. It is simple, eerie and haunting all in one. It evoked a
sense of unknown that resonated with me. I took this inspiration and began work on another concept. The resulting concept is what became the intro for my show reel. I wanted to make sure that it felt unique and to not directly copy what was done in the movie. The animation for the intro was purely experimental. I wanted to explore
shape layers more thoroughly in After Effects. I attempted to give each character life and presence in order to reflect what I do. I believe I excel at conceptualizing abstract ideas and I tend to let my imagination get the best of me. I think, "Wouldn't it be cool if this did this or that?". I let the idea develop and then I execute.
Looking back on this project I am pleased with the end result. I believe I accomplished what I set out to do. One of the hardest parts about this project was the animation for each character. This took a lot longer than I had anticipated but overall I believe it was worth it. I think for future show reels I will include 3d elements to the intro and outro in order to better reflect my range of work.
